I'm done. I've got nothing. My brain has run the gamut of pissed... resigned.. now I got nothing.
Last night was pool night. I have a match (shooting.. guns that is) this weekend. There is a match at an indoor range nearby every other Wed. I opted to go shoot it before pool and knock the rust off as I haven't shot in some time. The match really isn't much to brag about. The format is... well.. amateurish. When I first started, it was a big deal to me. But as I have shot other more organized disciplines I realize how disorganized and to a degree, unfair it really is. They ignore a lot of rules that sort of even the playing field otherwise. Anyway, I have come to see it as a great opportunity to push myself score be damned. Having said all of this, there is one shooter who shoots all disciplines. He is VERY good. It's interesting to me to see how he does in the various events he goes to. You can use him as an overall judge of the level of competition in each. I.e. he usually wins the Wed. night thing. He sometimes wins one particular discipline (that I don't shoot). He finishes in the top 3rd but has never come close to winning the discipline I do shoot. On Wed. nights I look at how I perform relative to him to see my progress. Last night I won. Took 1st overall. And beat him. Which has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the post. But I'm bragging just a little.
Yesterday I was standing in Chester's cube talking. He said he had been working on a side job all night and was really tired. I said "Tell me about it. I had a late night too". He looked at me in that "Oh really... do tell" manner. I said "Nothing happened. Not that." Maybe it was the look on my face. I dunno. But about an hour later I got a text from Taylor "Did you tell Chester about last night?" WTF! I asked her what he said. Basically he was fishing. This the same kind of shit he does all the fucking time. He doesn't realize how it affects other people when he's trying to be clever. That she asked me about it, tells me it really bugs her. She thinks I'm out saying "Oh yeah... I went out with Taylor last night... wink wink"
I got to pool after the match in a very weird frame of mind. On one hand I finally beat my mentor. But then again the match isn't exactly a good test. But straight up I beat him. But I was pissed about Chester. And I had absolutely no clue what to expect from Taylor. It seems she runs hot and cold from day to day. As for pool, I could really care less. I was completely indifferent about the whole thing.
Even though I shot, I ended up being the first person there. I ordered food... warmed up a bit. Finally Chester and Pops showed up. I tried to hang by myself and avoid him. But he kept after me about the shoot. I finally told him I won. And I told him how I really didn't care what happened in our match (pool this time... not shooting). Let me say, that sounds like I'm being an ass. But for whatever reason, if I'm relaxed and don't care about the outcome on the pool table, I shoot really... really well. Chester knows this. Somewhere in there Taylor showed up. She gave me an awkward hug. I joked with her and said "Oh... so it's like that!" She walked away and said back towards me "Yeah.. like that". Hmmm... was she joking too? It sounded like she may have meant it... hmmm.
Chester put me up first in 9 ball. I completely spanked the guy. I didn't shoot that great. But I shot well. Well enough that there was no way he would win. But he shot like complete shit. The score was so lopsided I almost skunked him (which no one has ever done on any of the teams I've played on). You have to understand how the handicaps work.. but the score gets "normalized" for handicaps. Even though the other guy made some balls... he made so few compared to me the normalized score almost zeroed for him. He made 1 ball enough to get 1 point.
After that the night went downhill. I ended up scoring another match which took forever. I looked over and Taylor was there with Chester... her hands on his thigh.. on his back... A thought started dawning on me (because I'm that fucking slow)... Maybe she's playing me. The whole competition thing.
I finally got away from scoring. At this point Taylor was scoring a different match by herself. I sat down next to her. She said "I am so fucking cold in here." I started to rub her back briskly. She said "That's just going to make me itch." Oh... ok. A few minutes later one of my teamates needed help. He called me over. I talked it over with him then sat back down. He completely fucked up what I told him to do. Taylor said "I was about to take over the time out from you". Now she pissed me off. I played on this team for 2 years before her. I've played league pool for about 5 years before that. I was a founding member of this team and have coached people thousands of times including the guy who asked for help. The other week the same guy asked Taylor for help. I've made the shot and coached the shot he needed help with hundreds of times. She set him up completely different than the way I would take it. I said "Taylor... let's discuss for a sec". She said "No" and went back to talking to the player. The guy on the other team, who has been playing since the league inception said "I'd move that ball over here to give it more angle"... which was exactly what I wanted her to do (he had ball in hand). She ignored him. Our guy took the shot... completely whiffed it... but got the leave we all wanted. She walked over and said "I'm never coaching another fucking player you assholes!" to both me and the other guy. And she meant it. So when she said that last night, it really pissed me off. I looked at her and said "You and me gonna fight soon" and kinda poked her.
Every chance she got, when the action was slow, she would walk over to Chester and it would be the same deal. Hands on his thighs... back... whatever. Then I heard Pops say "I'm glad you came over the other night. That was nice and Chester needs it". Motherfucker!! I WAS right!! AND... the next night, she hung out with me AND we fucking kissed!
The matches finally ended. I had almost a full beer. Without saying anything to anyone I walked over to the bar and sat down. I was sipping my beer watching some news show when the whole gang came walking over. Chester plopped his case down on the bar. Taylor scooted it over and sat next to me. Chester walked up next to her on the other side. She leaned her head over on his case and said "I'm sooooo tired". We all closed our tabs and left. I started heading to my truck. I noticed Taylor had parked next to Chester's truck. She called out "See you later Mr" and walked to her car.
And that... was that. I left. I was so fucking pissed on the way home. Then it all started clicking. Now I know why Chester said something to her about what I said. Now I know why it got to her. Now I get it. And fuck them all.
I haven't decided what to do about pool. I really could've cared less... and I spent the whole night annoyed, confused, then ultimately pissed. Which is just not a healthy way for me to spend my evenings. If I go back to pool, then it says I'm ok with getting jerked around by everyone. But... there is Celeste. But is it worth it. AND... what happens when Chester starts running his mouth again?
I think I'm done with it all... at least for now.
